“Wholeness Provided for the Whole Woman”

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Thessalonians 1:23

Our Heavenly Father is concerned about the “whole man” or the complete person, spirit, soul and body. The word “wholly” used in this verse refers to being made whole, complete, well, sound, and even healthy.

“Well, how do we get to that place of wholeness, you may ask? “ I seem to have so many problems and issues.” Well, it all begins in the inner man, or the spirit of man, through the new birth. At that precise moment you are set apart, made pure and clean in your spirit by the life quickening power of the Word of God, the Blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It is what we also call sanctification. There is an instantaneous change in the spirit of man, all things become new when we are born again. But sanctification then becomes a life-long process in the soul (our mind, will and emotions), affecting our outward conduct and godly character development. Through faith our physical body can be healed and made whole too.

The will and purpose of God is clearly set forth in this verse, otherwise Paul would not be praying this prayer for the believers. He says it is the God of peace who brings about these supernatural changes in our life. We can pray the same Word over ourselves – for it is the will of the Father to preserve us - spirit, soul and body! The word “preserve” means to be protected, kept safe from harm or destruction, including accidents, sickness and disease (Psalm 91).

It would be enough to have the provision of preservation in these uncertain and perilous times, but the Holy Spirit added the word “blameless”. When the enemy, or even your own thoughts, brings condemnation and confusion, you can know with an absolute certainty that the Lord is saying to you, “There is nothing laid to your charge – you are washed, you are sanctified, you are clean, you are free!”

How long does this blameless preservation last? Until the Lord comes again!! In fact, forever!!

Let’s look at 1 Thessalonians 5:23 in the Amplified Bible:

“ And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

The Father, The Word (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit are constantly working in us to will and to do of His good pleasure. They are changing us – developing us from the inside out, from our spirit man to our soul and our body, so that we are conformed to His image, by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:17 & 18 Amplified).

He is the Greater One in us – even indwelling our personality! Believe each day that He is transforming you by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:1 & 2).

My prayer for you is summed up in Ephesians 3: 16: -

“May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality.”
